Apple silicon and your data
Every Apple silicon MacBook Air stores its data on memory chips soldered next to the M-series chip, encrypted by the Secure Enclave inside that chip. The data can’t be read anywhere else. When one of these Macs fails, we repair the logic board, start the Mac in macOS Recovery and use Share Disk mode to copy the data to our system with your password.
The M1 to M5 MacBook Air is fanless and very thin, so liquid damage and charging faults are the most common problems we see.

Common faults
- Liquid damage reaching the logic board.
- No power or not charging through MagSafe or USB-C.
- Mac needs to be “revived” or restored after a failed update – restoring erases the data, so ask us first.
- Cracked screen – the data is safe and can be copied without a screen repair.
How it works
- Free initial consultation – tell us the model, what happened and whether FileVault was turned on.
- Diagnosis – we test the logic board or remove the SSD, depending on the model, and find the fault.
- Quote – you approve the price before any repair starts.
- Repair and extraction – we repair the board or read the SSD, then copy your data off the Mac.
- Return – your files are checked and copied to an external drive formatted for Mac.

Frequently asked questions
Apple says my Mac must be restored with Apple Configurator. Will that delete my data?
A ‘restore’ erases everything; a ‘revive’ should not. If there’s any doubt, don’t do either – contact us first.
Is my data encrypted even if I never turned on FileVault?
Yes. Apple silicon Macs always encrypt the internal SSD. Your login password is needed to access the data.
